Michelle Tarver Is Officially the New Leader at FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health

The FDA has appointed Dr. Michelle E. Tarver as the permanent Director of its Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH). An ophthalmologist with a doctorate in epidemiology, Dr. Tarver has been with the FDA since 2009, holding key leadership roles such as Deputy Director for Transformation at CDRH. She has served as Acting Director since July 2024, following Dr. Jeff Shuren’s retirement.

Dr. Tarver has consistently championed patient-centered approaches, emphasizing health equity and quality across the total product lifecycle. Her leadership has strengthened collaboration and transparency within the FDA, ensuring patient perspectives play a critical role in regulatory processes.

In an article by MD+DI, MDIC expressed strong support for Dr. Tarver’s appointment, recognizing her visionary leadership and dedication to improving patient care. MDIC President and CEO Andrew C. Fish noted that her focus on collaboration and innovation aligns with MDIC’s mission to advance regulatory science and enhance patient outcomes.
