Bringing the Patient Voice Into Medical Device Innovation
MDIC Center for Patient Engagement
MDIC helps the medical device ecosystem integrate meaningful patient engagement throughout the total product lifecycle. Through patient-focused initiatives, including Science of Patient Input (SPI) and the Patient Perspectives Innovators Circle, we develop practical tools and methods for patient engagement and Patient Preference Information (PPI), helping teams reduce uncertainty and develop medical technologies that reflect what matters to patients.
Join the MDIC Patient Preferences Innovators Circle
Innovators Circles are MDIC member communities of practice that convene around topics spanning the medical technology ecosystem. These quarterly member-only forums are designed to unite stakeholders across the MedTech ecosystem—guided by experienced Executive Stewards—to explore emerging challenges, preview new resources, shape future projects, and influence MDIC’s strategic direction.
Moving Patient Engagement From Principle to Practice
We give manufacturers, regulators, and patients validated tools and methods to integrate the patient voice throughout the total product lifecycle. Our work provides a clearer roadmap for when, how deeply, and through what mechanisms to engage patients, while advancing Patient Preference Information (PPI) so patient perspectives meaningfully inform benefit-risk and regulatory decisions. By convening industry, FDA, patients, and advocacy partners, MDIC helps ensure patient needs and preferences shape medical technologies from the earliest stages of development.
Build Patient Engagement Into Development
Provides structured validated tools that tell teams when and how to engage patients throughout device development.
Strengthens Evidence with Patient Preferences
Advances rigorous Patient Preference Information (PPI) and patient-centered benefit-risk methods so patient perspectives meaningfully inform Regulatory and development decision-making.
Makes Patient Partners in MedTech Innovation
Convenes patients, industry, and agency partners to ensure the patient needs and preferences can shape devices from the earliest stages.
Featured Resource: Patient-Centered Benefit-Risk Framework
Bring the patient perspective into benefit-risk decisions. MDIC’s Patient-Centered Benefit-Risk Framework provides practical guidance for incorporating Patient Preference Information (PPI) into medical device development and regulatory decision-making, including when to collect patient input and how to select appropriate methods.
